Sunday Afternoons

This has been a Sunday afternoon that I truly like. I've spent the better part of the afternoon working on a couple quilt squares. Over at "Five in a Row", when there is a lose of a friend from the boards (or a member of their family), the ladies pull together several quilt squares to make a larger quilt. Our friend, Fran, lost her battle with breast cancer almost two weeks ago, so I've been working on a square for her husband's quilt and one for one of her daughters.
My picture taking is a bit off today, but this is
the panel for one of Fran's daughters.

This panel will be going into the
quilt for Ed, her husband.

Also enjoyable today, has been cooking and baking. Granted there isn't much special about grilled cheese for lunch, but no one seemed to complain about having lunch fixed for them. It was also the easiest thing to fix given that I wanted to roast a chicken for dinner. HHHmmm the house has smelled wonderful this afternoon. Who cares that it feels horribly hot outside.

Other odd things that have made today day enjoyable (pictures below the statements now):

~ being able to maintain a newly sodded front lawn
~ a quick trip to the library to pick up a new book for the boys (sssshhhhhhhhhhh, don't tell the homeschool police that I only picked up one book!!) and their summer reading packages
~ a quick trip to Starbucks for their iced tea (only $0.53 when bringing in one of their cups to reuse)
~ finishing up a baby blanket; I like how the edges turned out looking a bit like lace!
Off now, to enjoy the family!

Spaghetti Dinner

We had spaghetti for dinner tonight. Nothing to special, just a quick red sauce, home made meatballs, slurrpy noodles, and garlic toast. It was the second time I've made the meatballs off of the Kraft Parmesan bottle (24 oz Costco size). They're tasting better, as I tweak the recipe and we get use to good meatballs.

At one point, I looked at Thing Two and he had sauce in his hair, between his eyebrows, on his nose, and the usual around the mouth. I don't know how he managed, but he did it. Surprisingly no one had dinner on their clothing.

I couldn't quiet get a good shot showing all the sauce around his eyebrows. It looked like he got "whipped with a wet noodle". Pun intended!! lol

The meatballs that Thing One didn't like the first go around. He said that Costco's tasted better. This time he gave them his seal of approval. These just might be something I'll do in bulk and freeze as they're so simple.

Pizza Night

It's been about 8 years. Eight years of making homemade pizza, from scratch, most every Friday night. There have been some weeks, over the years that have been skipped, because were dining with family or friends (at their house) and there have been some weeks that we order in. Mostly, though, we make our dough in the bread maker, make the sauce, and go from there.

Today was a first. The first time we made individual pizzas and the first time photos where taken (dear hubby even suggested that we should take pictures - guess he knows I like to blog). Here's a look into some of the pizzas.

Here are the hands of my all cheese child. The other pizza if for my meat loving son. Hubby's and mine are on the other tray.

Two trays worth of pizza's ready to go into the oven.

What was lost is now found!!

Okay, so it's nothing of great consenquences, but none the less, important to me.  I have a cookbook, Casserole Cooking From Taste of Home Books.  There are a number of recipes that we enjoy from this book and it got buried beneath some piles of papers.  Was disappointed when I thought it was lost, but got over it.  Was happy when it was found.

Ah, can still make:
  • Cordon Bleu Casserole
  • Tater-Topped Casserole
  • Sunshine Casserole
  • and others
P.S.  Does this count as Monday Musing?

Back from Vacation

We've been home from vacation for about a hour now.  Food stuff has been put away, bags are in the appropriate room, mails been gone through.  Just need to figure out what to do for dinner!  Yikes, thats a hard one when there isn't much food in the house to pull together a good meal.  May just have to make a run out to Giant to pick up a meal.

Tonight, not that it matters to anyone (in the big scheme of life), I hope to finish up lesson plans for next week, unpack, and go to bed early because it's my own bed.  Will also, hopefully, blog highlights from our vacation in the coming days.

Dinner

We had chicken and baked potatoes for dinner tonight; which really isn't anything to special.  What made it better, was how I cooked the baked potatoes.  Before rolling each in tin foil, I spread a little butter, sprinkled a bit of garlic salt, and, with mine, rolled in some fresh rosemary.  It tasted really good because each bite had a taste of the herb in it.  Will have to do that again sometime.
