A weeks worth of pictures

Actually, about eight days worth. This covers things from last Sunday, which I never got around to posting, through this weekend. Enjoy the photo's.

Christmas Child Box
Thing Two's donation

Christmas Child Box
Thing One's Donation

Our church had a goal of 200 boxes.
We collected over 330. Way to go
Burke Community Church.

Going away party for a friend. She's moving to
Hawaii to be with her husband. Our lose,
his gain.

Don't you hate it when someone
snaps a photo and you aren't ready.

The guys chatting. Probably about
basses, guitars, and the latest music
software. They did end up in Al's office
playing something or looking at something

Wish you could see how blue Thing One's
teeth were. They were almost day glow blue.

Starting of my long awaited Craft Room. That is Kevin's
marriage proposal from 13 1/2 years ago. The room may still take a
bit of tweaking, but it's mostly there.

The rest of the craft area. Things have been hung!!

Yes, I'm posting the laundry area. I was pleased
with how it looks with the pots on a shelf.

Double Posting Friday

Had hopes of totally organizing the basement today, but lost a lot of steam when it was time to pull dinner together (it's Pizza Night; we needed dough and sauce this week). Thus far I have managed to:
  • get the big furniture into it's place
  • hang one of two pieces peg board
  • vacuum most of the room
  • mop most of the floor, but it really needs another pass over
  • paint the drywall over the duct work and I beam
  • wipe down a couple shelves and put things back
  • sew a make shift curtain for the laundry shoot
  • rearrange a couple of shelves to put painting supplies on
  • load up the work bench shelves
Our old dinning table is my new sewing/craft table. I've
already used it to make the laundry shoot curtain.

Cleaned up washer and dryer. The wall behind the
utility sink is new. There wasn't anything behind it a
week ago.

New spot for workbench. It's by the door
near the washer and dryer.

Curtain around laundry shoot and laundry basket
at the bottom. It's there to hide the dirty laundry
until I'm ready to wash it.

Yes, there are still many piles left to organize. It's a busy weekend here
with meetings, life group, lesson planning, church, and all those activities
that keep a family of four busy. Hope to get most of it finished by the
end of the weekend.

Monday Musing

It's still early today (5:41 AM by our Set Top Box) or "6:41 AM before we changed our clocks" according to Thing One. It is still VERY dark out side, but there is enough light outside to "see" the shine on our vehicles to know that it rained over night. There very well may still be a light mist coming down. Another week begins in the cold and dark.

We'll begin our school week with the second week of "Hanna's Cold Winter" and a week with "Mr. Gumpy's Motorcar". I'm looking forward to this week, because the outside activities have slowed down a bit. On the same note, but not so fortunately, we are battling what may be common colds or could be the flu. Because I just don't know yet, we're trying to take it easy, lay low, and get healthy. Our school days may be a little less organized as a result, but we'll get everything done that needs to be.

On the home remodeling front, progress is being made in the basement. The whole utility room has a dropped ceiling now, the HVAC trunk and steel I beam have been drywalled, and the second window well has been drywalled. Our contractor will be back today to do the final sanding and priming. I'll hopefully be able to paint those areas later today. My end of the job isn't finished though. Another trip to Home Depot for a piece of drywall, more spackle, an outlet cover, HVAC register cover, and return a couple of things.

Clean-up

The construction crew is just cleaning up today. Hope this means we're about finished with the new bathroom!!!! The mirror, towel rake, and towel paper holder have been installed. They've also cleaned up the floor in part of the utility room that they were working in. There's still a lot of tools to be lugged out though. I won't hold my breath till it's finished - I've kind of gotten used to breathing.

Later tonight, I'll take a couple more photos and post them on this entry.

P.S. Here's the photo's of a job 98% done (still need a hand towel, toilet paper, trash can)

Here's the new door to the utility room. The old door was right at the bottom of the steps. The new one is further back.

The new 1/2 bath!! All that is left to do is put in a towel, toilet paper, and a trash can.

New area for our fridge, freezer, and bakers rack. The wall, in the fore ground, is the outside back wall of the bathroom.

PAINT

We're on the home stretch with the basement remod (the bathroom portion anyway)!! Paint is going up in the bathroom, foyer area, and part of the utility room that they worked on. I am hoping that there will be time to faux paint before the sink and toilet get put in. Hopefully I'll be able to paint tonight, after VBS, and take some pictures. If there is success, I'll add photo's to this post later.

P.S. There were a number of days that where sanding spackle, filling holes again, more sanding, or priming the walls took place. Those days didn't make for good photo's. Stay tuned though, if you're following our remod.

The photo doesn't show the sponge painting well, but did a heavy sponge
about 4 1/1 feet and lighter below. Hopefully pictures will look better
with the sink, toilet, mirror, towel bar, and toilet paper holder in.

Bathroom Remodeling

We have drywall and it's in. The bathroom is coming along and sure seems like it will be usable soon. Looking forward to being able to use it. Here are some more photo's.

Drywall in the new bathroom. It'll be small, but functional. Yeah!!
Our basement is almost finished.

Pocket door separating the rec room and utility room. Still needs to be painted
and trimmed, but it's getting there!!!

New area for our fridge, freezer, and bakers rack. It will almost be like a mini
kitchen. Notice the light switch? We finally have the utility room
and rec room on two different set of switches. How long until
we remember to turn off the utility room?

Lost Track . . . .

of the number of days that the crew has been here building our bathroom. Okay, not totally, it's 5 or 6. Electrical issues have been worked out, bathroom is vented to the outside, bathroom has a light. Now to wait on inspections and the rest will go quickly, I hope.

Day Two and Day Three Photos

It's felt like a long three days so far with the basement remodeling. They're making progress, but still seems like a lot of work.

DAY THREE
A lot of framing and plumbing went on today. Here are a few photo's.

Looking through the framed bathroom door.

Outside corner of the bathroom. It's diagonally opposite from
from the bathroom door.

Water supply for the sink and toilet are in
as well. Looks like the county inspector will be
in soon to look at the work.

Day One - New Bathroom

Construction has begun. It's been noisy, but they've done a good job containing the mess. Here's a picture of the broken concrete.

More on home renovation . . .

we're making progress on our most recent home renovation. The area to be worked on has been emptied out, permits are being pulled tomorrow, selections are being made. Looking forward to the job being finished, but if we've waited about 5 years, what is waiting another month?
Here's what an approximate layout of walls will look like when the job is completed. The door that is open, will be removed and the walls cleaned up. There will be a pocket door in the long wall of the bathroom (where the long piece of tape is right now) that will close off the utility room. Yes, there will be a door into the bathroom, it will be on the short wall near the existing wall. Small, compact bathroom, but will be functional. Yeah!!!!
