Fall Sunday's

First weekend of the school year.   Everyone I know around here is back in school; public school, private school, home school, college, masters, you get the picture?

Although not all things have been added to the "school year" calendar, most has.  We've had Tae Kwon Doe, baseball, shopping, cleaning, organizing, grilling!  Still coming up is church and Sunday school followed by lesson prep and an extend family dinner.  Doesn't get much better.

Well, that isn't entirely true.  We had a big rain store that dropped the temperature over 20 degrees yesterday.  That was NICE and this morning it is still quite nice.  I hope to get to a few fun Fall type things this afternoon.  What's on my mental list, here's a peek:

• make a "BOO" sign; something like this but my own take on it.
• make Candy Corn Pretzels; however mine will have yellow and orange "chocolate" and white sprinkles
• bring out a few fall swags (berries and leaves)
• put out some fake pumpkins (we still need to shop for real ones)

Yesterday!

Didn't blog yesterday, although I had a great topic - lack of electronics.  Our power has been restored from the storm that blew through on June 30th.  All of us seemed to be glued to electronics and not actually interacting with each other as much as we should.  Kevin knows this is a huge source of frustration to me, that we do our individual things, for way to long in a day, in front of a screen (as a side note, his work doesn't count toward that ~ he HAS to use a computer to earn his paycheck).  We get hung up checking up on everyone under the sun from facebook friends, to random bloggers who we don't know and may not need their input on whatever, to reading book reviews of books we'd never read, to reading several news websites that are basically saying the same thing.

So yesterday after a huge lunch, and a little screen time, there was no screen allowed.  Reading an actual book made of paper and cover, coloring, Legos, napping, biking, arts & crafts were allowed.  I curled up and read for awhile in bed, in case I fell asleep.  Thing Two fell asleep playing Legos, Kevin dosed while reading, and Thing One goofed off quietly.  When I came back down, Kevin went up to sleep and Thing One fell asleep on the couch. 

It was really enjoyable having a different kind of quiet house yesterday afternoon.  Will definitely have to repeat in the near future.
 

Quiet Sunday Morning

My guys! Aren't they handsome? This particular photo was taken Friday night at our church. Our pastor and his wife's daughter was married this May in California. The newlyweds came east, to celebrate their wedding one more time. What bride wouldn't love to where their dress more than once?

Anyhoot, it isn't often that I take a picture of all three men in the house that look kind of normal. This was the better of the two shots taken. The other had Thing One looking somewhere totally different. For once, the photo with the eyes shut is the better photo. The three of them gave me a quiet morning today. Kevin is playing, bass I believe, with the worship team and the boys wanted to go with him. I'm alone in the house with the only noise being from the clicking of the computer and the A/C running (isn't that a wonderful thing all by itself?)

What does someone do with some quiet time first thing in the day. I probably haven't been as productive as I could have been. There are still piles of things that need to be dealt with, things to be cleaned, or things to be put away. I've chosen to sit and enjoy a cup of coffee out of our new dishes (well the mug from the set anyway).

Kevin and I celebrated our 13th anniversary this past February and still have an amazing amount of dishes left from our sets that we bought just after getting married. Think one serving bowl, two or three small plates, and one dinner plate have succombed to life. I've been looking for dishes that would kind of go with what we currently have and that has been a challenge (I'm a little to frugal to just pitch the remaining dishes and buy all new ones). A number of days ago, I saw this set at Costco, unfortunately, this particular store only had the dishes in light blue. Pretty - yes - but really wouldn't go with the navy blue and white dishes we already had. After asking, it sounded like there weren't many white available at any of the stores. Last weekend we were at a different Costco and checked, just out of curiousity. Wow, not only did they have the white, but they had two sets. A little digging and rearranging of boxes and they were in our cart. As an aside, even Corningware was more expensive to purchase the same amount of dishes and just weren't as pretty.

So, on this quiet Sunday morning, I sit drinking coffee in a new, pretty mug!

Sunday Afternoons

This has been one of those Sunday afternoons that are memorable.  The day had no one highlight, but taken as a whole was a great day.  Here's what we did:

• we went to church this morning
  
• came home and had lunch
• discussed the afternoon and our agenda
• napping was the main topic and the adults here took one while the kids played Wii (hubby only napped about 45 minutes, so it's not like the kids got hours upon hours of video time)
• we vegged, watched football, and I started lesson plans for the week
• dinner, prepared by hubby (thank you!!) was comfort food - chicken pot pie
• and now more vegging with football and surfing the internet.

May not be ideal for everyone, but on a rainy Sunday afternoon, it worked for us.
